Genesis 22:1-18

Isaac was the son that was promised by God who would make Abraham’s descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky.  Then God tells Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac.  A sacrifice of obedience.  Abraham was going to do it because he believed God could raise the dead.  God intervened before Isaac was sacrificed.  Jesus comes along as another of God’s promises, the one who would be Savior of the world.  And God intervenes again, except He does so by allowing Jesus, His promised Son, to be the sacrifice for the whole world.
