Genesis 11:1-9

The world had one language and began to build a tower to the heavens to make a name for themselves.  God came down to earth and intervened, ultimately confusing their languages so the tower was never finished and the people spread all over the earth.  In our sinfulness, we have tendency to make towers for ourselves.  We build towers of pride and selfishness.  We build ourselves up, boast in ourselves and our accomplishments.  And God has to come down to earth and intervene because of our sinfulness.  This intervention is Jesus going to the cross for us.  Not to spread us over the whole earth, but to forgive us and bring us back to Him and His loving arms as His people.
