500 YEARS OF GRACE
Well, God’s amazing grace has always been part of the Church but it got a little lost for about 1200 years during the medieval era, buried in a lot of church rules and practices. Martin Luther brought it back to the forefront where it belongs in the early 1500’s. This year, 2017, marks the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. It started with a simple act of nailing 95 theses for public debate on the door of the Wittenberg Church by Martin Luther on October 31st, 1517. In that document Martin Luther questioned the Church’s practice of selling indulgences to procure God’s grace (and a clever way to fund the building of St. Peter’s Church in Rome). Remember grace isn’t earned, it’s free! The tidal wave of reform began. The blessings of the Reformation are taken for granted today and almost forgotten. Well not this year! We are going to celebrate and learn about many of those blessing on Saturday, September 9th between 4:30 and 9:00PM. We are having a Block Party, fun activities, including escape rooms, some food, music and fireworks at 8:30PM. All to celebrate our heritage as Lutherans, our citizenship as Canadians, and of course God’s amazing Grace through His Son Jesus Christ. And a few weeks after that you will also be invited to the Winnipeg screening of the new Luther Movie “The Idea that Changed the World” (venue, date and time TBA). Plan on attending, and plan on helping out! This is going to be great!
